Scott Young

Director

    Master Gunnery Sergeant Young was born on 17 March 1980 in Orange, Ca. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 02 October 2000. He attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. After graduating recruit training, he was assigned to Infantry Training Battalion (ITB) as a student at Camp Pendleton, California where he was assigned the MOS of 0311.

 

    In March 2001, he received orders to 1st Bn 4th Marines, Company A, Camp Pendleton, California where he served as a Scout Swimmer, Team Leader, and then Squad Leader. He deployed with the 13th MEU in 2002 in support of OEF, 2003 in support of OIF, and 2004 in support of OIF. In 2003, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal, while serving as a Fire Team leader in 1st platoon. In January of 2004, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal while serving as Squad Leader in 2nd Platoon.

 

    In February 2005, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and reported to Field Medical Service School where he served as a Combat Instructor, command Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) manager, command Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival (MCIWS), and Academics Chief.

 

    In May 2007, Sergeant Young reported to 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, Company A, where he served as a Team Leader. In 2008 he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and deployed with the 13th MEU as the Amphibious Reconnaissance Platoon Sergeant for 2nd Platoon, Company A.

 

    In October 2009, Staff Sergeant Young reported to Force Reconnaissance Company, IMEF. In May 2011 he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and was assigned to 4th Platoon where he served as the Platoon Sergeant and deployed to Afghanistan in support of OEF 11-1.

 

    In July 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Young reported the Marine Corps Combatant Dive Detachment (MCDD), Naval Dive and Salvage Training Center (NDSTC). During this assignment he served as the Chief Instructor and qualified as a MK25 MOD2 Technician, SCUBA, MK 25 MOD2, and Recompression Chamber Supervisor. During this tour he was also promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant.

 

    In July 2016, Master Sergeant Young reported to 3d Reconnaissance Bn, Company A, where served as the Company Operations Chief. During this tour Master Sergeant Young deployed routinely throughout the INDOPACOM AOR as the reconnaissance Senior Enlisted Advisor (SEA) for Company A. He conducted joint and combined planning in support of all Theater Security Cooperation (TSC), Service Level Training Exercises (SLTE), and Deployments for training (DFT) for 3d Marine Division and III MEF.

 

    In July 2019, Master Sergeant Young once again received orders to the Marine Corps Combatant Dive Detachment (MCDD).

 

    From 2019-2022 Master Sergeant Young served as the Detachment Commander and USMC Liaison Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center Panama City, FL.

 

    In 2022 Master Sergeant Young received orders to 2d Reconnaissance Bn to serve as the Battalion Training Chief. In Jan 2023 he was promoted to Master Gunnery Sergeant and served the remainder of his tour as the Battalion Operations Chief.

 

    In June of 2024 MGySgt Young reported to Man Power and Reserve Affairs, Head Quarters Marine Corps and currently serves as the Reconnaissance Enlisted Assignments Monitor.

 

    Master Sergeant Gunnery Young's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service medal 3rd award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal 3rd award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal 6th award, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
