Sgt. William J. Woitowicz
Died: June 7, 2011

GROTON -- Sergeant William Joseph Woitowicz, USMC, of Groton, died June 7, 2011 in combat in the Badghis province of Afghanistan.

He was born April 14, 1988 in Concord, MA, a son of Kevin J. and Rosemary (Labelle) Woitowicz. He was a graduate of Groton Dunstable High School, Class of 2007 where he was involved in athletics and played on the basketball team.

Sergeant Woitowicz was a member of the 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion where he served with distinction. He received several awards including the Purple Heart; Combat Action Ribbon; Marine Corps; Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Metal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon; and the NATO International Security Assistance Force Medal.

Besides his loving parents, he is survived by his brother, Christopher Woitowicz; his sister, Amanda Woitowicz; grandparents, Albert and Carol Labelle; great aunts, Sophie Brule, Gabrielle Haley, Josephine Stevens; great uncle, Warren Stevens; aunts and uncles, David and Jane Woitowicz, Anne Marie and Frank Polak, Anne Marie and James Boyle, MaryEllen Labelle and Larry Osmer, Albert Labelle, Jr. and Morena Michelangelo, Willliam Labelle; cousins, Allan and Lauren Woitowicz, Nicholas and Matthew Polak, Joseph, MaryClaire, Rosemary, John, Brian, Anna, Elizabeth, Cecelia, and Grace Boyle, James, Kevin, and Steven Mullen, Melanie Michelangelo and Catherine Labelle-Michelangelo, Danielle Labelle; extended family, Joe and Karen Moore and Matt, Mike, Jenny and Drew Moore. He was pre-deceased by grandparents, Jeannette and Florian Woitowicz, and Great Uncle, Aleck Woitowicz.

He is also survived by his family of fellow marines.
